Among the many home businesses which I’ve ran over the years, a number of them were offline businesses.
And even with the many online business opportunities springing up over the years; there is still a large percentage of people who are more suited to running an offline business.
I realize that not all people want to work at home all day, and that some people don’t want to sit in front on a computer screen all day either. And I really do get and understand that, because you can become very isolated with just having a computer screen as company!
Non Technical Business Ideas
Then of course not everyone is technical (I just get by to run this blog, but don’t get me started on mobile phones – ask my 18 year old son!) or want to learn technology to start and run a small business.
So therefore, I have laid out some of the best offline business ideas that don’t require a heavy reliance on technology. In fact, most of these businesses don’t require any technology to run. So if you hate anything tech, then there are still many non tech business ideas to choose from.
All these offline businesses are home based. So they don’t require you to setup a shop or buy/rent an outlet, which can be very expensive.
These 27 offline business ideas are where you actually work at home, or you go out to customer/clients homes to carry out your service, but you still manage (i.e. do your admin work) from home.
So let’s get started…
1. Ironing Service
You might love to iron, but there are many people who don’t. So doesn’t this sound like a perfect ‘win-win’ business idea!
Starting a home-based ironing business is a very underrated and under utilized business idea, so if you do your marketing right, then you could be sitting on a goldmine!
As a quick example, you could target busy professionals as your target market. I’m sure that there are many single males who wear a suit and tie for work, and hate to iron their own shirts!
2. Cleaning Business
Offering a cleaning service is another very lucrative home-based business idea.
There are now so many different types of cleaning services to offer, which means that you can offer a variety of services to your customer base.
4. Sewing Alterations
Do you love to sew and have this as a hobby?
You could have two options here, depending how good you are at sewing.
#1 You could purely do sewing alterations on garments and household fabric items (taking up curtains for example),
#2 You could make clothes or curtains/cushions etc for customers.
The latter is much more time-consuming and so you would have to price your creations accordingly to make it worth your time – especially if you were making clothing for other people.
But if you can create a cushion cover or a tailored pair of curtains in a short amount of time; then this is worth investigating further.
5. Creating and Selling Jewelry
Do you love to make jewelry or would this be something new you would love to learn?
This could be a great hobby/business combo!
I think this might be more of a side-hustle / part-time business taking into consideration how long it would take you to make jewelry pieces and then to find customers to actually purchase them. But there are lots of everyday women creating and selling their jewelry creations, so it can be done.
You can sell your jewelry at:
- Street fairs
- Trade-fair exhibitions
- Rent a corner of a shop
- eBay
- Etsy, etc..
6. Dog Walking
There are a few of my neighbors who use a dog walker, so they area very much a needed service and are proving that dog walking is a popular offline business idea.
There are more and more people getting dogs, but these dog owners also work too and so they have to rely on a dog walker to make sure their dog gets its daily exercise.
So if you love dogs and love to walk out in the fresh air, then a dog walking business could be for you.
7. Making & Selling Dog Treats
Creating and selling dog treats as a business involves several key steps. First, research and develop unique recipes that prioritize canine health and appeal to pet owners’ preferences. Ensure that the treats are made from high-quality, safe ingredients. Acquiring necessary certifications and adhering to pet food regulations is crucial for credibility.
Next, establish a production process and secure reliable suppliers for ingredients and packaging. Develop a brand identity that communicates the quality and care put into the treats. Marketing efforts should focus on the nutritional benefits, flavor variety, and the joy pets derive from the treats.
Distribution channels may include local pet stores, online platforms, or even collaborations with veterinary clinics. Building relationships with suppliers, retailers, and customers is essential for long-term success. Regularly innovate by introducing new flavors or incorporating trends in pet nutrition. Ongoing quality control and customer feedback evaluation are critical for refining the business and maintaining a loyal customer base.
8. Catering Service
If your baking and cooking skills are good enough to provide as catering for a special occasion or a business buffet, then this could be a good little profit-making business for you.
You will definitely have to kit your kitchen out in order to handle all this baking on a large-scale, and you’ll also have to invest in a small van to transport the food.
Another thing you’ll need is a special licence / permit from your local government to allow you to make and sell food from your home.
9. Mobile or Static Food Van/Truck
My son has a friend and her parents have just recently sold their food van business, and I can tell you it was a gold-mine!
I’ve seen this time and time again, both on TV and in real life, that if you serve great convenience food and have it in a prime location, then you can make a lot of money from a static food van.
Convenience food such as burgers, fries, deli sandwiches and hot baps filled with beef or pulled pork, along with selling crisps/chips and pop.
Prime locations such as large car parks at Walmart (or B&Q in the UK), retail parks, or within an office-orientated
